How to Make Muscadine Wine
Today I harvest muacadines, and press the grapes to make Muscadine wine. Muscadines are native grape to North America. They make a great wine that is a southern tradition. This wine after it is done fermenting and bottled will age a year. It is a fairly sweet wine. I had a blast making it. Enjoy!
Permaculture: How to Start
So you’ve heard about Permaculture, but you don’t know where to start? We start with our zone 1. Our zone 1 is a where we visit daily, and is the easiest to maintain. In my zone 1 I’ve already planted my pollinator and predator a tractors. Later I will add edibles: such as blue berries, strawberries, and vegetables and herbs. PLEASE SUBSCRIBE!
Summer Update 8.16.17
Homesteading or being is a journey. Sometimes it’s smooth sailing, and other bumps in the road at every turn. Ups and downs are around every turn. My first ever successful rooting of flowering shrubs. The flip side minimal success with the garden. Last of the medium/large livestock after my goat and Great Pyrenees die. Just remember when you fail fail forward. Garden and such was not successful, but quality of life is at a all time high.
Flowering Shrub Propagation
I always say learning to propagate your own plants is like having a printing press. Today I show you how to propagate flowering shrubs from softwood cuttings. I will try to root butterfly bushes and azaleas.
To Prune or not to Prune
That is the question. I show you two examples of apple seedlings. One that was pruned. One that was not. I feel that the one that was pruned looked healthier. Also I talk about a trellising method called espalier. Which I will employ in my small property 3 acres. It will be apple trees, but look similar to a grape orchard. Enjoy! Please Subscribe!
Root Stock and Roses
If you have watched any of my videos you know I like growing for free. Plant propagation is an great way to extend a buck or 20 on your food forest. I noticed that an apple tree on a semi dwarf root stock sent up shoots. I will take you through my plan to start propagation of my own root stock from that shoot. Also I show you a rose that my mother’s mother gave her is layered.
5/29/17 Update.
It’s getting exciting around. Blackberries and muscadines are growing like crazy. Compost is being made, and sunflowers are popping up all around. The sunflowers are from black oil sunflower seed that I sprout for my chickens.
Nature’s Fruit
What’s better than fresh fruit. Free fresh fruit provided by nature. “Wild” fruit is well adapted to your local climate, and is one important component of Permaculture. Muscadies are North America’s native grapes, and can make a great wine. Jams and jellies can be made from black berries and muscadines. I plan to encourage these two fruits to grow, but how I want it to. I’m thinking a food hedge along the perimeter of my property for some security. And it’s FREE!!!
