Homesteading or being is a journey. Sometimes it’s smooth sailing, and other bumps in the road at every turn. Ups and downs are around every turn. My first ever successful rooting of flowering shrubs. The flip side minimal success with the garden. Last of the medium/large livestock after my goat and Great Pyrenees die. Just remember when you fail fail forward. Garden and such was not successful, but quality of life is at a all time high.

To Prune or not to Prune
That is the question. I show you two examples of apple seedlings. One that was pruned. One that was not. I feel that the one that was pruned looked healthier. Also I talk about a trellising method called espalier. Which I will employ in my small property 3 acres. It will be apple trees, but look similar to a grape orchard. Enjoy! Please Subscribe!
5/29/17 Update.
It’s getting exciting around. Blackberries and muscadines are growing like crazy. Compost is being made, and sunflowers are popping up all around. The sunflowers are from black oil sunflower seed that I sprout for my chickens.
Uses for Grass Clippings.
I use my new lawn mower that has a bagger. I love the mower with the bagger because how easy it is to collect the grass clippings. Grass clippings are great for rabbit and goat food. Chickens also will eat the grass clippings. You can also spread out the clippings to save them for hay to store for winter. AND the clippings that don’t go to feed make great compost.
Garden Update Take 2
Somehow when uploading the video to YouTube a lot of the video was chopped off. Here is the complete video.
Spring greens are in, but not all are cooperating. Lettuce is doing great, spinach fair, and kale is a no show. Lettuce is beautiful, and kale will become beans. Even tough the kale wasn’t what I expected I just replanted the bed. It’s still early, so don’t fret just replant. PLEASE SUBSCRIBE. FOLLOW ME ON TWITTER!
Drip Irrigation
I installed drip irrigation in my four square foot gardening beds. This is a shaker system I got from Home Depot for $25. Here in Georgia during the summer months irrigation is a must. I had been using a hose to water my garden, but this is nearly effortless and more water conscience.

Spring Garden
Today I plant my Spring garden. I planted it on the square foot gardening style. I placed 16 radishes per square foot. Four lettuce per square. Two kale per square. I also added some compost to last years Mel’s mix of peat moss, compost, and perlite. Enjoy and subscribe.

Family Fun
For my little Becca’s birthday we had a little family fun. First we went on a hike in a local state park that has some pretty easy and beautiful trails. We ran into some homeschool friends who came with us. The next day we went to a local indoor pool for some swimming fun. Becca enjoyed turing 6. Happy birthday my Becca.
