Spring greens are in, but not all are cooperating. Lettuce is doing great, spinach fair, and kale is a no show. Lettuce is beautiful, and kale will become beans. Garden Update

Drip Irrigation
I installed drip irrigation in my four square foot gardening beds. This is a shaker system I got from Home Depot for $25. Here in Georgia during the summer months irrigation is a must. I had been using a hose to water my garden, but this is nearly effortless and more water conscience.

Square Foot Garden Finished
My girls and I put the finishing touches on the last of the square foot garden bed. Three steps to make a square foot garden. 1 Build frame 2 Fill it with Mel’s Mix ( 1/3 pet moss 1/3 perlite 1/3 compost). 3. Apply a grid. Finish. I have everything already finish except for the grid. Katie, Becca, and I put the grid on. It’s much easier with some help.

Corn Sprouts Day Three.
Corn is sprouting, but not as good as I would like. My idea was sprouting corn because I have grown it many times before. Black oil sunflower did much better, and I have grown sunflowers many time before also. Also there is no “GMO” with sunflower.

New Sprouts Experiment.
I’m going to try to sprout corn for feed. I know many would say, “Corn GMO”. It’s an experiment. If it works I can grow corn easily. Also I’m teaching Katie and Becca how to take care of the animals.
Rabbits and Social Capital.
Rabbits provide meat, are easy to breed, and demonstrate social capital. I have 5 rabbits now, and have had as many as 15. I have never bought a single rabbit. Even the hutch was gifted to me. One word Social Capital!

Chicks are hatching. Time to break out the old brooder. I made this brooder 5 year ago. It’s still going strong. Very exciting. I love that no matter how many times we hatch eggs, when chicks start pipping. My girls and wife are glued to the incubator.
